A Message from Our Founder, Donna Brownlow:
After 30 years of serving on the frontlines of Houston’s nonprofit sector, I have seen one truth remain constant: compassion only creates change when it is paired with action.
I founded Love Is An Action in April 2025 to do more than just provide temporary relief. My mission is to bridge the gap between existing resources and the families who need them most. We aren't just here to fill a need for a day; we are here to foster long-term independence through education, community health, and strategic programming.
Whether it was navigating the challenges of Hurricane Harvey or the 2021 Winter Storms, my "boots on the ground" experience has shown me that our neighbors are resilient—they just need the right tools and opportunities to thrive.
At Love Is An Action, we believe it is our duty to serve with understanding and heart. I invite you to join us as we empower our Houston neighborhoods, one family at a time.

A native of Northwest Houston, Donna is a Texas-certified Community Health Worker, holds a certification in Adult Mental Health First Aid from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, and earned a certificate in Gerontology from Houston Community College. Beyond her professional life, Donna is a devoted wife of 35 years to her husband, Clyde, and the proud mother of Dỹmonic and Tommy.
As a 30-year veteran of Houston’s nonprofit sector, a "boots on the ground" leader, Donna has dedicated her life to frontline service. As the Founding Executive Director of Love Is An Action - a community-based nonprofit established in April 2025 -Donna empowers residents by bridging the gap between available resources and the families who need them most. Her work is guided by a powerful vision: Empowering People, Providing Accessibility, Cultivating Thriving Communities.

Donna’s deep-rooted passion is fueled by three decades of direct service in Houston’s inner-city neighborhoods and suburbs. Having served in key leadership roles at organizations such as Target Hunger, Bear Creek Assistance Ministries, and the San Jacinto Girl Scouts, she has seen firsthand the stagnation caused by a lack of opportunity within many of the communities she has served. As the former Director of Food Services Operations for Target Hunger, Donna worked tirelessly alongside the City of Houston and the Houston Food Bank to lead relief efforts through the city’s most challenging moments, including Tropical Storm Allison, Hurricane Harvey, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the 2021 winter storms.

In 2019, Donna’s lifelong commitment was recognized when she received the prestigious Mayor’s History Maker Award. Reflecting on her motivation, she shares:
"It is my duty as a Christian to help those in need with compassion and understanding. This is what my parents instilled in me from a young age, and it remains at the forefront of how I serve."
For over forty years, Donna’s service of love for her community has surpassed even her professional career. She has continuously served her home community of Carverdale in extensive volunteer leadership roles. She has served as the president of the community sports association, mentored young boys for the PAYBAC summer camp, served as a troop cookie chairman for the Girl Scouts, and coached track and field, softball, and cheerleading squads.
Deeply invested in youth, families, and seniors, Donna has organized an annual back-to-school supply program, a community Easter egg hunt, served as a high school ministry leader, taught children's church, and formed a praise dance ministry. Her commitment to holistic community wellness is further demonstrated through the community health fairs, legal clinics, utility assistance workshops, and financial literacy seminars she has
sponsored. Recognizing a vital need for older adults, she has hosted senior holiday parties and successfully founded a dedicated senior day site program.
